Role of Our Govenors

The role of governors within the Blue Kite Academy Trust is to provide focused governance for the school at a local level. This involves monitoring the school’s key performance indicators and provide appropriate support and challenge to the headteacher. Governors will also play a part in representing the views of the school’s stakeholders – parents, staff and pupils as well as the local community. Details of what has been delegated to the Local Governing Bodies can be found in the document called The Scheme of Delegation.

What are the Govenors's core functions?

  • ensuring clarity of school vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • holding the Head of Schools to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • implementing leadership and management plans made by Blue Kite Academy Trust.

How is the Board of Governors structured?

The Governing Body is made up of:

  • the Headteacher (executive/head of school) (ex-officio)
  • one Staff member (elected by school staff)
  • one Parent member of each school (elected by school parents)
  • Foundation members (appointed by the Diocese of Bristol)
  • Ex-officio Foundation member (usually the incumbent vicar) - appointed by the Diocese of Bristol
  • Community members (appointed by the Academy Council)

The standard term of office for a governor is four years. Our board has a chair, but also creates working parties and/or specialist panels as needed. Governor meetings are held at least 6 times per year.
